On Tuesday, January 30th 2018, Dr. Alice DeWittie will talk to us about the iGen. The Millennial conversation is old news. There’s a new kid in town and they’re known as the iGen. They are your kids, your college students and your next new hire. And they think different. Join us for a fascinating exploration of what makes the iGen tick and how they are already shaping our world. Dr. Alice DeWittie, principal of Summit High School, will lead our discussion. She spends every day with 1,513 iGen students and thus is uniquely qualified to give us insights into this emerging generation. You’ll leave the meeting challenged, inspired, troubled and informed by this timely topic.

This highly interactive talk will address two aspects of the iGen population, digital media and maturity and what you can do about it.

Will the iGen ever grow up?

There’s a major difference in our current youth from those that have gone before it. We are experiencing rapid societal change and the need for critical thinking has never been more apparent. We have a real challenge ahead for us, but there are concrete and hopeful things we can do to help our youth grow into maturity.

On Tuesday, January 16th, 2018, Nancy Hamilton from the Oregon Business Alliance for Climate will be speaking to us about Bill 1070, which will be introduced in Feb 2018. The bill would establish an Oregon carbon pollution market.

On Tuesday, January 9th, 2018, Bob Bryant, Region Manager, ODOT will be talking about how Highway 97 at the north end of Bend will be rerouted to separate local shopping traffic from through traffic.

On Tuesday, January 2nd, 2018, Neil Bryant will be leading us in our New Year’s Toast. Traditionally each member stands up and gives their own short toast after Neil’s toast.

On Tuesday, December 12th, 2017, Ken Wilhelm will be talking about how the landscape around charitable giving is shifting, no more so than at the United Way. As the workplace has changed, so has workplace giving. Ken will discuss how United Way is adapting, and its increased focus on adverse childhood experiences, trauma and resilience.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5th 2017, Admiral Bill Owens, Former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will be speaking to us about security threats around the world.

On Tuesday, Nov. 28th 2017, we will be at The Riverhouse Convention Center for our Student Recognition event. One outstanding student from each high school in the Bend LaPine School District will be recognized.

On Tuesday, Nov. 21st 2017, Joe Sluka, CEO of St. Charles Health System, will be talking about how St. Charles is adapting to the changing healthcare landscape.

On Tuesday, Nov. 14th 2017, Kyle Frick will be speaking to us about our club’s own foundation.

On Tuesday, Nov. 7th 2017, Stephanie Alvstad and Peggy Carey will be speaking to us about the vocational training program at J Bar J Youth Services.
