Rotary Lunch Program: Tracy Bain, Ovarian Cancer Alliance

Tracy Bain On Tuesday, August 11, our lunch program will be a presentation from Tracy Bain from the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon & Southwest Washington, with a presentation entitled “Trust Your Gut”.

Tracy was diagnosed at the age of 27 with a rare form of ovarian cancer. She was fortunate to make a full recovery, but realized how isolating this disease can be for women, and dismayed at how little information is provided to women on ovarian cancer symptom awareness even in the doctor’s office.

Tracy started volunteering with the Survivors Teaching Students program run by the national Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance to teach students about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer first hand.

She now sits on the board of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon & Southwest Washington and is deeply passionate about supporting women in the region facing ovarian cancer. Her goal is to ensure that women fighting this disease never feel alone, but have the resources and community to help them every step of the way.

The presentation will highlight OCAOSW’s “Trust Your Gut” campaign, which provides an overview of ovarian cancer signs and symptoms, statistics and risk factors. As there is no
diagnostic test for ovarian cancer, awareness and education are the best resources for women so they can advocate for themselves and their health if they do not feel well. The presentation will also provide information on the organization’s programs for ovarian cancer survivors and the broader Oregon and SW Washington community

We’ll be in our usual room at 10 Barrel East.
