On Tuesday, July 21, our lunch speaker will be Dr. Stephen B. Kornfeld, MD.

We anticipate this will be a popular lunch program! Members must sign up for this lunch, including guests.
Dr. Stephen B. Kornfeld, MD is a long‑established oncologist and internist in Bend, Oregon, with over 44 years of experience in medical oncology and internal medicine. He graduated with honors from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California in 1982 and completed residency at Oregon Health & Science University.
In May 2026, Dr. Kornfeld became the de facto head doctor aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius after the ship’s original physician contracted hantavirus. He led the medical response to the outbreak, coordinating care for affected passengers and staff. He described the experience as a “team effort” and expressed relief at the absence of new symptoms.

After weeks spent aboard a cruise ship off the coast of Africa, followed by a lengthy stay at the National Quarantine Unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Dr. Stephen Kornfeld is finally back where he wants to be: home in Bend.
“Being home is everything,” Kornfeld said. “Just to sleep in my own bed and to breathe the Central Oregon air.”
We’ll be in our usual room at 10 Barrel East.

This meeting will both in-person and virtual. We will record the presentation for others who aren’t able to attend at noon.
