Rotary Lunch Program: Student Recognition

On Tuesday, November 13 2018, we’ll be having our Rotary Student Recognition lunch.

The Rotary Student Recognition lunch is a unique opportunity to recognize and hear from five outstanding students (one from each of the five Bend-La Pine high schools) who best exemplify Rotary’s motto of “Service above self.” This is always a high energy, feel-good program as we get a glimpse at the best and brightest of our future and a peak at the caliber of students going through our local schools.

Join us from noon till 1:15 at the Riverhouse (the restaurant side, NOT the Convention Center), 3075 N Hwy 97, Bend, OR 97703.

Rotary Lunch Speaker: Robyn Holdman – the Civility Project

On Tuesday, October 30 2018, our lunch speaker will be Robyn Holdman, who will be talking to us about the Civility Project.

Based on community input, Citizens4Community launched the Sisters Country Civility Project in February 2016 to encourage civil dialogue and civic engagement throughout Sisters Country. The initiative is using 9 basic tenets offered by Speak Your Peace and P.M. Forni’s book “Choosing Civility.” Those tenets are presented on the Sisters Country Civility Project’s “9+1 Tool Cards.” Drawing upon the talents, time and passion of Sisters Country C4C team members, citizens and valued partners, the Project includes quarterly community-wide meetings, educational sessions with partners, speaking engagements with area stakeholders and locally produced content and materials—all of which are designed to support respectful communication and build trust.

Lunch Program – Bonneville Power Administration

On Tuesday, September 25 2018, representatives from the Bonneville Power Administration will be joining us for a discussion about regional power issues.

Please note: this week, we’ll be at the Riverhouse Convention Center, in the Cascade Rooms E&F.

The Bonneville Power Administration is a nonprofit federal power marketing administration based in the Pacific Northwest. Although BPA is part of the U.S. Department of Energy, it is self-funding and covers its costs by selling its products and services. BPA markets wholesale electrical power from 31 federal hydroelectric projects in the Northwest, one nonfederal nuclear plant and several small nonfederal power plants. The dams are operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation. The nonfederal nuclear plant, Columbia Generating Station, is owned and operated by Energy Northwest, a joint operating agency of the state of Washington. BPA provides about 28 percent of the electric power used in the Northwest and its resources — primarily hydroelectric — make BPA power nearly carbon free.

BPA also operates and maintains about three-fourths of the high-voltage transmission in its service territory. BPA’s territory includes Idaho, Oregon, Washington, western Montana and small parts of eastern Montana, California, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.

Join us from noon till 1:15 at the Riverhouse Convention Center, 3075 N Hwy 97, Bend, OR 97703, Cascade Rooms E&F.

Bethlehem Inn Tour

On Tuesday, September 18 2018, we will be holding our weekly lunch meeting at the Bethlehem Inn. Gwenn Wysling, Executive Director, will be giving us a tour of the campus. The rebuilding of the Bethlehem Inn was our most recent signature project–the club contributed a total of $75,000..

Please park in the first section of the parking lot at the Bend International School which is located just west of the Inn off Mervin Sampels. It would be helpful if folks could carpool as the parking lot is not that large (approximately 20 spaces). They are currently very challenged with parking, especially since school has started again. Alternatively, park on the shoulder of O.B. Riley Road, just north of the school.

Join us from noon till 1:15 at the Bethlehem Inn, 3705 N. Highway 97, Bend, Oregon 97703. It’s behind Knecht’s.
