Rotary Lunch Speaker – Laura Fritz, Envision Bend

Laura Fritz On Tuesday, March 1 2022, our lunch speaker will be Laura Fritz, Executive Director of Envision Bend.Since 2005, Envision Bend (formerly Bend 2030) has led our community in planning for the future. Many of Greater Bend’s biggest successes of recent years can trace their roots in part to our community’s original vision – a new university campus, a regional transit system, a more diversified economy, more parks and trails, just to name a few.

Today, newly rebranded and reorganized, Envision Bend continues to work with government, business, community groups, and people of all backgrounds and perspectives from across the Bend area to help shape our future, making Bend a better place for everyone.

Rotary Lunch Speaker: Batman of San Jose

On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, our lunch program will be Batman of San Jose.

Ever since June 2018, as a teenager, he has been suiting up as Batman to go to downtown San José to deliver food, water, blankets, socks, and other supplies to the growing homeless population in San Jose. He uses the suit to attract attention to the issue of homelessness in San Jose by getting people to look at the issues that normally we all consciously choose to ignore.

He made the suit himself–many of the pieces he’s 3D printed. Through spreading awareness of the growing issue of homelessness in San Jose, he hopes to inspire others who are better equipped to solve this problem to do something to help those in need.

  Batman of San Jose

He does not directly work for any organizations, and he initially funded this mission on his own with minimal assistance. Today, he’s got a number of supporters who donate monthly through Patreon.

Today he’s at Rochester Institute of Technology, studying industrial design. He’s continued his Batman mission there in Rochester NY as well.

Batman says: “I’ve even witnessed those who are economically disadvantaged get treated as LESS than human. At the end of the day, no matter who you are or what people tell you that you are, YOU CAN HELP. All it takes is a will to act. If we don’t act, no one else will. What I am trying to say is that anyone can help, whether you choose a ‘boots-on-the-ground’ approach like me, or just simply volunteering wherever you can.”

Join us on Tuesday to hear the inspirational story from this amazing young man.
