Jon Nelson – Wildlife at the High Desert Museum

On Tuesday, January 22nd 2019, our lunch program speaker will be Jon Nelson, Curator of Wildlife at The High Desert Museum. Jon will be talking about captive wildlife care and training at the museum, and how they use live animals for interpretation and education.

Jon grew up in an Oregon logging family but was born in Kamloops BC in 1979. His dad had moved the family there to find work. Jon came back to Oregon when he was 6 and grew up in the Mt. Hood area. He worked in the lumber industry for 12 years after high school before going back to college to become a biologist. Jon received a degree in Natural Resources with a minor in Fisheries and Wildlife Science from OSU in 2012. He’s been involved at the museum since 2009, but also worked for ODOT and USGS doing wildlife field work with mule deer and raptors.

Join us from noon till 1:15 at the Riverhouse (the restaurant side, NOT the Convention Center), 3075 N Hwy 97, Bend, OR 97703.
