On Tuesday, November 3, please join us for an inspiring and uplifting presentation on the Ten Friends Summer 2026 trip to Nepal that included club members Bruce Abernethy and Scott McNairy and four local high school students. Sky Goldstein will also be part of the presentation. Learn about this amazing culture where giving is more valued than receiving and the extreme lengths students must go to get an education. Our club has donated funds towards the expansion of a hostel at a 700-student school and we will provide an update.
Bruce Abernethy moved to Bend in the Spring of 1992 and has been active in a wide range of organizations and causes including serving on the Board of the Bend-La Pine School District, Bend Park and Recreation District, Central Oregon Community College, and the Bend City Council (where he served as Mayor of Bend for two years in 2007-08).
Bruce has been a strong champion for affordable housing, the homeless, and recovery services during his time both inside and outside of government. He worked as the Grantwriter for Bend-La Pine Schools for 21 years until his retirement in July 2025. He is very active in Rotary serving as Advisor for seven years to the Summit High School Interact Club, Youth Exchange Officer for the past seven years, and Chair of District 5110 Rotary Youth Exchange for the past three years.
